Liipfert recently spoke at the NCBA Estate Planning Annual Meeting
Attorney Bailey Liipfert III, CELA, has been invited to Brighton Gardens, located in Winston-Salem, to address a group of residents, family members and caregivers. He will cover how the recent law changes affects drafting a Health Care Power of Attorney in North Carolina, and other related Estate Planning issues.

William W. Walker, B. Bailey Liipfert III, CELA and Brent W. Stephens, CELA, were invited to speak at one of two seminars sponsored by WFU School of Law held in Raleigh, NC at the McKimmon Center, located on the campus of NC State University. The seminar, entitled Representing The Elderly, covered various topics surrounding the challenges attorneys face with regards to not only law changes and ethical considerations in the practice of Elder Law, but also the legal aspects of family care contracts.
Attorney B. Bailey Liipfert,III,CELA, will speak at an upcoming CLE entitled Changes and Trends Affecting Special Needs Trusts, which will be held in Austin, Texas. Liiipfert, a Charter Member of the Special Needs Alliance, will be part of a panel discussion covering the issues attorneys, and trustees of the special needs trust, face when making decisions regarding housing, ownership and maintenance of the primary residence.
In addition to the housing issues, the course, hosted by The University of Texas School of Law and The Wealth Management and Trust Division of the Texas Bankers Association, will cover topics including an overview of a Special Needs Trust, drafting estate plans for those family members that are incapacitated and advising trustees with regards to everyday and emergency disbursements.
Attorney Aimee Smith has been invited to speak at an upcoming meeting for area social workers to be held at the Piedmont Dialysis Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Smith, an Elder Law and Long-Term Care attorney, will discuss the healthcare professional’s role with regard to patients who have diminished capacity.
In keeping with her practice serving older adults, Elder Law Attorney Aimee Smith has been elected to serve on the 2008 Board of Directors of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem.
The Shepherd’s Center is a volunteer-based organization, and has been serving seniors in the community since 1985. The Center provides education, support, fellowship and assistance to older adults who desire to remain living in their own homes independently for as long as possible.
Attorney Rebecca L. Smitherman recently participated as one of the session speakers at the National Business Institute's Estate Planning Basics seminars in both Greensboro and Raleigh, NC. Her topic was Wills and Trusts: Principals in Will Drafting/Revocable and Irrevocable Living Trusts.
In late 2007, Rebecca L. Smitherman spoke at the Wiser Financial client appreciation dinner held in Winston-Salem. Smitherman, who concentrates her practice in the areas of Estate Planning and Corporate law, addressed the issues clients and attorneys face when crafting their individual estate plans.
B. Bailey Liipfert, III, CELA, and Brent W. Stephens, CELA, recently participated in a roundtable discussion as part of The North Carolina Conference on Aging, a 3-day conference organized by the UNC Institute on Aging in Chapel Hill. The event, held at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, gives recognition to heathcare professionals, as well as provides information regarding how they can work together to enable them to give adequate responses to the ever-growing aging population. During the 3 days, professionals could attend a variety of educational tracks - from AARP’s national campaign building awareness of leaders, to how professionals can ensure seniors receive the quality of care they need in today’s changing environment. Other segments covered topics important to this industry, including nursing home and home heathcare. Each attendee focused on what was essential in their particular profession. Brent W. Stephens, CELA, will be speaking at an upcoming seminar planned by the NC Bar Association’s Elder Law Section. The conference will be held in Cary, NC at the NCBA Center. Stephens’ topic will be an overview of Special Needs Trust, what it means and how it can possibly help elderly clients and those with disabilities.
